Nina & Scott

It was the second week of Nina’s first year of law school. She was told that if she wanted to do well she should attend the Academic Success Program. Run by the law school, it was taught by second and third year law school students that had performed well in their first year. Nina showed up on the first day wearing two different colored converse and Scott couldn’t help but notice them – was she wearing them because she got dressed in the dark or because she was making a fashion statement?

A few weeks of the program went by before Nina approached him and introduced herself.

“Hi, my name’s Nina,” she said.

“Hi, I’m Scott,” he replied.

“I know who you are,” Nina said.

“Oh yeah, obviously…” he said awkwardly.

There was silence. Then Nina asked,” Would you mind if I came in for your office hours to review some of the material from earlier this semester?”

They set up a time to meet and what was meant to be a 15 minute meeting lasted almost two hours. Nina would email him questions about class and close with a link to music she thought he would like or articles she thought he might find interesting.

On the last day of the semester, after she figured he hadn’t got the hint, she finally asked him for his phone number. After they went their separate ways, Scott texted her and the two set up a date at Zocalo on E. 4th for a few weeks later.

Scott proposed at the end of his third year of law school. They got married after Nina took the bar exam. (She found out she passed a month and a half after their wedding).

“Who ever thought that love would blossom in law school?” she said.
